ABOUT ABOUT

Apportionment. Redistricting. Election procedures. Voter registration requirements. Closed vs. open primaries. These are just some of the issues brought to the fore in the wake of the last presidential election.

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania is conducting a review and update of its Election Law positions and is seeking the input of local Leagues in order to come to a consensus on those positions. In keeping with our tradition of grassroots decision-making, The Philadelphia League of Women Voters is offering an opportunity to discuss the issues involved, and to answer the consensus questions posed by the state League.

Consensus is not a vote; rather, consensus is mutual agreement of League members arrived at through discussion. During discussion, everyone has an opportunity to express their viewpoints, and the issue is examined from all sides. Consensus questions, created by the study committee and approved by the Board, provide structure for the meeting. Members discuss the pros and cons until it becomes apparent that consensus has or has not been reached on each question. A committee will analyze the consensus responses, look for areas of member understanding and agreement and, using this information, will create a position statement.

Join us on Thursday, March 30th, at 5:30pm at the offices of Committee of Seventy to discuss the consensus questions concerning these areas and record our responses to be submitted to our Board and then to LWVPA. We want to hear about your experiences and opinions!

When you register, we'll email you a study guide, so you can be prepared to participate in the discussion.
